SAN FRANCISCO ― At least four people have died, including a gunman, following a shooting at a UPS facility in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood on Wednesday morning, police confirmed.
The unidentified gunman shot a total of five people around 9 a.m. local time before turning turning what acting chief Toney Chaplin described as “an assault pistol” on himself when police entered the building.
Police confirmed the shooter was wearing a UPS uniform, but did not confirm whether he was employed by the delivery company. At least one employee recognized the shooter as a fellow UPS worker, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. Police say they believe he is the sole suspect.
Police have lifted an advisory for residents to avoid the area and shelter in place.
“The company is saddened and deeply concerned about affected employees, family members and the community we share,” a UPS statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those touched by this incident.”
Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center had reported multiple admissions from the shooting, according to San Francisco Chronicle journalist Filipa Ioannou.
