Steve Nash: Challenging The DC Status Quo Is Like 'A Pea Shooter And An Elephant'

NBA Star's Simple Explanation For What's Wrong With Washington
|

Steve Nash thinks about much more than pick-and-rolls, backdoor cuts and passing lanes in his everyday life. When it comes to politics, however, he wonders if it's even worth it to open his mouth.

Nash, an 18-year NBA veteran, joined HuffPost Live on Wednesday to discuss the Steve Nash Foundation Showdown and bemoaned to host Marc Lamont Hill the political landscape of today, particularly lobbyists clogging Washington. He said, though, that no matter how much he talks, nothing will get done.

"That's like taking on the devil and the beast," Nash said. "It's almost like a pea shooter and an elephant. I'd love to get involved or speak out about that, but for what?"

Nash makes time for yoga every day -- even if it's just 10 minutes on his own. "I think yoga is very regenerative." (credit:Alamy)

Nash is an avid soccer player and recently tried out for European powerhouse Inter Milan before the Guinness International Champions Cup. "I think soccer has a huge impact on my basketball career. Soccer is absolutely harder, more physically demanding than basketball. You can recover and play more basketball games than soccer games. I think that’s the defining statistic." (credit:Getty Images)

Game-day naps rule professional sports and Nash is a believer. "I nap every game day. ... I’ll try to nap for as long as I can. A half hour to two hours on game days is usually what it is." (credit:Getty Images)

Nash is 39 years old with two years left on his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. "Diet and sleep are probably the two biggest tools to recover -- definitely something that's hard to do when you're traveling a lot. You have a busy, stressful schedule, but it's something you have to make a priority." (credit:Getty Images)
