Four officers fired back, killing the suspect.

Police in Colorado killed a gunman who began firing at people in downtown Colorado Springs on Saturday morning. Three of the shooter's victims have died.

Officers were dispatched around 8:40 a.m. after reports of gunfire, The Denver Post reported. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, fired at Colorado Springs Police Department officers. Cops returned fire, killing the suspect.

A witness at the scene of the shooting, 21-year-old Matt Abshire, told the Colorado Springs Gazette and Denver7 that two women were among those shot. Abshire said he awoke to the sound of gunshots, looked out his window, and saw a college-aged person dead in the road.

Abshire said the suspect had more than one weapon, including an assault rifle.

Police said four officers fired at the suspect and will be placed on routine administrative leave, according to KDVR.
