The length of an NFL field is 120 yards, including both end zones. The field of play is 100 yards with each end zone extending a further 10 yards at either end. These numbers are relevant while marveling at Cordarrelle Patterson's 109-yard kickoff return touchdown. After catching the opening kickoff near the back of his own end zone, Patterson needed 12 seconds to evade 11 would-be tacklers and reach the far end of the field.
The fleet-footed rookie wide receiver staked the Minnesota Vikings to an instant 7-0 lead over the Green Bay Packers on "Sunday Night Football" with this mazy, blink-and-you-missed it return. Patterson set a new record for the longest kickoff return in NFL history and tied the record for the longest play ever set by Antonio Cromartie in 2007 when he returned a missed field goal 109 yards for a touchdown.
