In 2008, Denver was host to the Democratic Convention. Barack Obama was officially declared the democratic presidential nominee and Biden officially declared his running mate. Obama accepted the nomination in front of a crowd of 75,000 people at INVESCO field. (credit:Getty Images)
Ted Haggard(02 of05)

In 2005, the former leader of the National Evangelical Association, Ted Haggard, resigned after public allegations he had had drug fueled, homosexual liaisons with a prostitute. Haggard had been an outspoken critic of homosexuality. After the scandal, Haggard entered counseling and, as of 2010, started a new church.

In 2008, officials stated that "all of Colorado's mature lodgepole pine forests will be killed within three to five years" The beetles ate 500,000 acres of forests in 2007.

In 2009, Richard and Mayumi Heene claimed that their six year old son Falcon was stuck in a gas balloon they accidentally released into the sky. After a frantic search, Falcon was discovered hiding in the house. The incident was later revealed to be a hoax on CNN. (credit:Getty Images)
Denver Legalizes Marijuana(05 of05)

Wayward Bill:
On November 3, 2005, Denver became the first city in the nation to make the private use of marijuana legal for adults 21 and older as an alternative to alcohol. With 100% of the votes tallied, the Alcohol-Marijuana Equalization Initiative had passed 53.49% YES to 46.51% NO.
