Fantasy Football Adds: Nick Foles, David Wilson Among Waiver Wire Pickups For Week 15 Playoffs

Help For The Fantasy Football Playoffs

My ole pappy once told me, “it’s not who you bring to the dance, it’s who you take home.” Ok, so that never actually happened, and it sure sounds cold-hearted and arrogant, but it’s actually the right mentality to bring into the playoffs for fantasy football.

Fantasy Football playoffs are very much a clean slate and while it may have been RGIII or Dez Bryant that got your team into the playoffs, the players who could end up bringing you the trophy are lesser-known talents such as Montell Owens and Nick Foles. Yes, backup quarterbacks and fourth string running backs have the ability to lift your team when it matters most.

Here’s a look at six players widely available on the waiver wire who can make an impact in the remaining few weeks of the fantasy football season:

Fantasy Pickups Week 15
Rod Streater, WR - Oakland Raiders(01 of06)

For a second straight week Rod Streater was the top target for the Oakland Raiders. The wide out available in 98% of fantasy leagues hauled in four receptions for 100 yards in a loss to the Broncos while leading the team with seven targets. This comes after a three reception, 96-yard performance against the Browns last week that included a touchdown. Streater now ranks third amongst the Raiders wide receivers this season with 429 yards. Not bad for an undrafted talent out of Temple. (credit:AP)
Nick Foles, QB - Philadelphia Eagles(02 of06)

After a rough start to his career, Nick Foles has now turned in two solid performances. He was spectacular this weekend with two touchdown passes without an interception along with 381 passing yards while rushing for 27 yards and another touchdown. Foles led the Eagles to a thrilling win over the Bucs despite a horrid performance from running back Bryce Brown. Foles connected with eight wide receivers in the win just one week after a solid 251-yard performance with a touchdown and no interceptions against the Cowboys. The third round pick out of Arizona looks like he could hold down the fort as the Eagles starting quarterback next season. (credit:AP)
Alshon Jeffrey, WR - Chicago Bears(03 of06)

Now that he’s healthy, Alshon Jeffrey is again showing some fantasy relevance. The Bears second round pick out of South Carolina hauled in three grabs for 57 yards with a touchdown. Jeffrey had attracted some fantasy attention early in the season with 184 yards and two touchdowns in his first five games. Assuming that Jay Cutler returns to full health, Jeffrey could finish the season with a flare. (credit:Getty Images)
Bilal Powell, RB - New York Jets(04 of06)

The Jets made the best possible decision this weekend. Rather than pick between Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, and Greg McElroy, they opted for none of the above with a focus predominately on the rushing attack. Bilal Powell, a fourth round pick out of Louisville in 2011, had 19 rushes for 78 yards with a touchdown against the Jaguars. It marked the fourth straight performance with 40-plus yards for Powell, a hot stretch that consisted of career-highs in total rushes in all four games. (credit:AP)
Montell Owens, RB - Jacksonville Jaguars(05 of06)

A five-year veteran for the Jaguars who has mostly been limited to special teams, Montell Owens is thriving in his shot at glory. In a tough loss to the Jets, Owens led the Jaguars offense with 14 rushes for 91 yards with a touchdown and an 11-yard reception. Owens is getting the shot to contribute due to injuries to Maurice Jones-Drew, Rashad Jennings, and Jalen Parmele. Undrafted out of Maine, Owens is having a shocking impact during the fantasy playoffs while his team hopes its struggles will at least result in the drafting of a franchise quarterback. (credit:AP)
David Wilson, RB - New York Giants(06 of06)

All but ignored in Tom Coughlin’s doghouse after a fumble in the opening week, David Wilson found redemption in a big way this past weekend. He was the game’s MVP in a triumphant pummeling of the Saints as he led the way with 100 rushing yards on 13 rushes with two scores, while also racking up 227 return yards on four kick returns with a touchdown. Considering Wilson entered the weekend with just 111 rushing yards on the season, his dominating performance is certain to increase his role, particularly with an ailing Ahmad Bradshaw plus backup running back Andre Brown lost for the season.
