NUEVA YORK (AP) — La viuda de George Harrison, la mexicana Olivia Harrison, espera dar una perspectiva más amplia sobre el reservado ex Beatle y hablar sobre temas que no se incluyeron en un reciente documental de Martin Scorsese.

Basado en la cinta "George Harrison: Living in the Material World" de Scorsese, el libro digital homónimo salió a la venta el martes en la librería digital iBookstore. Incluye audio, videos y material de la película además de fotografías personales, cartas y recuerdos que nunca habían sido compartidas con el público. La versión impresa del libro está disponible en las librerías.

Además del libro digital, con modalidad para pantalla táctil, el DVD del documental salía a la venta el martes.

La película de tres horas y media muestra el lado espiritual de Harrison, desde sus primeros días con los Beatles hasta su exploración de la música y la religión oriental. También habla de su muerte, ocurrida en 2001.

En una entrevista telefónica desde Londres, Olivia Harrison, quien fue una de las productoras de la cinta, dijo que le encantó el mensaje del documental pero que le pareció que no cubría los otros "lados" de su esposo.

"Marty (Scorsese) eligió la música para la narrativa y la misma conduce la historia. Creo que encajó la música perfectamente, pero hubo un punto en el que dije, '¡Caray, no vamos a pasar de 1975!''', dijo Harrison, apuntando que por ejemplo no se incluyó la canción "Taxman" de 1987 o el álbum "Cloud Nine", con el que el ex Beatle retomó su carrera.

"Quedó claro muy rápido que no podíamos incluir todo", reconoció.

Apuntó que el documental sobre su esposo presentado el año pasado en HBO incluye más de la carrera de Harrison en comparación con "No Direction Home: Bob Dylan" de Scorsese, que habla de Dylan desde que llegó a Nueva York en 1961 hasta su eventual cambio a la música "eléctrica".

"Ese documental termina en 1966. Eso es todo. Y uno sabe el volumen de música que Bob (Dylan) ha producido desde entonces", dijo Harrison. "Las dos son películas de más de tres horas pero ésta cubre un periodo más amplio de la vida de George".

Gran parte de la cinta trata de los viajes del ex Beatle a India, donde exploró la música y la espiritualidad local y colaboró con el músico indio Ravi Shankar.

Giles Martin, hijo del legendario productor de los Beatles George Martin, hizo parte de la producción musical del filme. Dijo que Harrison iluminó a su padre en cuanto a la música oriental y la instrumentación.

"Amplió los límites con su viaje a través de la música india", dijo Martin.

"Mi papá dijo que cuando George trajo su canción 'Within You Without You' al (álbum de los Beatles) 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' no sabía qué hacer con ella. En ese contexto, en esa época, 1966, la música de otras partes del mundo no estaba a la mano", agregó. "Así que él hizo que mi padre conociera el sitar".

Harrison dijo que la capacidad de su esposo para traducir lo que sentía de manera que todos pudieran entenderlo fue su principal don.

"Creo que era el dilema de la vida y donde te encuentra a ti mismo, eso era lo que le atraía más", dijo.
