A sixth-grade teacher at an Alabama school was arrested on charges of rape and sodomy after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a minor student.
Jennifer Collins McNeill, 39, was arrested Aug. 16, just three days before the start of classes at Thorsby High School. According to police, the teacher and cheerleading coach is accused of having sex with a boy younger than 16 between April of 2012 and June of 2013. WBRC reports that the victim was a high school student, but did not attend the school where McNeill taught.
McNeill is charged with six counts of second-degree rape and two counts of second-degree sodomy, according to court records obtained by Alabama.com. Chilton County Schools Superintendent Dave Hayden told the website that McNeill was placed on administrative leave.
"We're all shocked... disappointment doesn't describe it," Hayden told Alabama.com.
A preliminary hearing for McNeill was scheduled for Sept. 25 in Chilton County Court, according to The Clanton Advertiser.
