Since we first met Philippe Malouin at last year's Salone del Mobile, the Canadian designer's career has gone from strength to strength. After being named W Hotel's 'Designer of the Future' in 2012, Malouin hasn't disappointed, returning this year to take Milan by storm with his first Italian solo exhibition, 'Simple'.
We caught up with Malouin at his compact London studio before the opening of the exhibition to discuss why the simplest things are often the most complex and the need for self-regulation of often wasteful design.
Curated by Maria Cristina Didero, 'Simple' presents several new works that have been developed over the course of two years. The project beautifully captures Malouin's own experimental approach to design, constantly looking to discover new manufacturing techniques and ways of using materials, while aiming to keep the final product as simple and minimal as possible.
'Simple' is at Project B Gallery 10th April - 18th May
