Photographs taken at the Voodoo Music Experience are a singular haul. The New Orleans music festival isn't exactly hipster bait à la Pitchfork, or the neon trip of an Electric Daisy Carnival. Voodoo happens around Halloween in New Orleans' historic City Park. A typical scene, if there is one, could very well be a sousaphone player serenading a pair of tiny kids on an unusual family trip.

This year, a who's who across genres traded the stages: from Neil Young to Skrillex, Metallica to Jack White to the Avett Brothers. For the first time since starting in the 1990s, the festival offered camping grounds to its thousands of visitors, who arrived even as grounded flights along the Sandy-churned eastern seaboard threw off airport schedules nationwide.

We've partnered with the crowd-sourced database Instagigs to bring you a view of Voodoo, as snapped by attendees with a knack for Instagram. Scroll through the slideshow below for a filtered sweep of the festival and campgrounds, where costumes, crowd surfers, and kids in headphones were all par for the course.
