The New York Yankees came back from a three-run deficit and beat the Minnesota Twins 6-4 on Wednesday night in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. After the game, former Twins pitcher Jack Morris ripped Minnesota starter Francisco Liriano for blowing the lead.
Liriano, who went 14-8 with a 3.44 ERA this season, pitched five scoreless innings. But he gave up four earned runs in the sixth and lost the lead.
"The good guys never let it slip away, and he let it slip away," Morris said on Minnesota's radio network postgame show.
Liriano, the 2010 American League Comeback Player of the Year, didn't make it through the sixth inning after giving up a two-run triple to Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson.
Before the game, Morris praised Minnesota's starting pitcher for Game 2, Carl Pavano.
"He knows what he is doing," Morris said. "Here is the thing with Carl: He has a plan and if his control is good enough, his plan usually works."
