Korn Guitarist Brian Welch On Christianity: Going From Addiction To Being Born-Again

Brian "Head' Welch, guitarist for Korn, turned his life around by turning to Christ.

The single father and nu-metal rocker was struggling with addiction issues compounded by life on the road when he found Jesus, quitting the band to focus on his daughter and his new faith.

He's back in the band now, however-- appearing in shows and recording a new record, 'The Paradigm Shift,' while still remaining dedicated to his faith. He and his bandmates and joined HuffPost Live to talk about everything from drugs to Jesus.

Welch cited some moral objections back in 2005 as part of the reason for his departure from the band, based on the lifestyle he was engaged in as well as the music's content.

HuffPost Live host Mike Sacks inquired, "Did you feel when you left the band that your faith was not reconcilable with the music that Korn was playing, and if so, how do you reconcile those things now that you're back in the band?"

"Oh man. Well the religious world would say that yeah, but these are my people, man. This is where I belong, you know?" Welch said.

"I'm not hung up on little things like that. Jesus hung out with hookers and crazy people. I love where I'm at."

Guitarist James 'Munky' Shaffer agreed that it's been a good transformation for Welch.

"For me, I think it was necessary, because it saved his life," he said. "And now he's able to join us again and also be a father to his daughter. And now we get the best of both worlds, because we have a healthy guy, and a great father and a great musician back in the band."
