The announcement this week that "twerk" would be added to the Oxford Dictionaries Online led to a ton of conversation on Twitter, especially coming after Miley Cyrus' controversial performance at the MTV VMAs. Slate noted that the word wouldn't appear in the Oxford English Dictionary, so it might not be exactly what people were thinking, but that didn't stop the jokes.

Erin Gloria Ryan gave us all a pep talk: "Nothing in America can't be accomplished with a little talent and a lot of hard twerk." Natalie Patricia chimed in with a prediction: "'Oxford Dictionary defines "twerking" as a sexually provocative dance move. But it is so much more than that.' - future commencement address." And Stephanie McMaster expressed her excitement for one event in particular: "Now that 'twerk' has been added to the dictionary, I can't wait for a Spelling Bee judge to be asked to use it in a sentence."
