Few career paths carry as much risk as being a fashion designer, but thanks to the growing e-commerce landscape, women's wear designer Cynthia Rowley thinks today's age is ripe with opportunity.

"Fashion as an industry has changed so much since I started," she told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani in an interview on Friday. "Just to be able to sell online at this time is a crazy thing. At this time, there has never been a better time to start a business or make clothes. It's virtually risk-free."

The digital marketplace offers plenty of outlets for designers to sell their goods, Rowley explained, making success more attainable.

"You can make something. you can put it out there and you'll have a conversation, and you can tell your story and start something," she said. "I mean, it's never been easier, and that didn't exist when I started."

"I have two brothers. One of them was an angel, he really made me look bad, but one of them is worse than me, which was good for me. We came from such a small town, there was nothing to do except for make our own fun."
