We're suckers for vintage photos of women doing cool things, so we were thrilled when Reddit user annamal shared this image of a rider astride her 1939 Harley-Davidson EL Knucklehead.
Cristine Sommer-Simmons, whose book The American Motorcycle Girls features the photograph on its cover, identified the rider as Dot Smith.
According to Sommer-Simmons, Smith was a member of Motor Maids, an organization for female bikers. She also rode with the San Francisco Motorcycle Club.
Now that's badass.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this article misidentified the rider as Dot Robinson. The article has been updated throughout to reflect this.
