St. Louis rookie Vladimir Tarasenko was left dazed on the ice after getting blindsided by Avalanche center Mark Olver on Wednesday night.
Tarasenko received a belated welcoming to the NHL eight minutes into the third period when he dumped the puck to a teammate behind the Colorado net. After the 21-year-old backhanded the loose puck against the boards, he turned around only to get crushed by Olver, who rushed over and appeared to catch Tarasenko in the jaw. Tarasenko fell to the ice as cameras caught blood dripping from his mouth.
Tarasenko had to leave the game and was transported to a local hospital, but NHL analyst Darren Pang later confirmed on Twitter that he was able to re-join his team after St. Louis' 1-0 overtime loss in overtime.
After the hit, several on Twitter wondered why no penalty was called.
