Marvin Gaye Clearly Knew 'What's Going On' In The Style Department (PHOTO)

And we want to steal his entire look!
|

Through his music, Marvin Gaye taught us "What's Going On," how to "Get It On" and the importance of a little "Sexual Healing." The late singer/songwriter was an American legend who helped shape Motown Records in the 1960s and his musical genius was heard around the world. There are few awards that were not bestowed upon Gaye during his short-lived career, and even fewer musicians who aren't greatly influenced by his work.

In celebration of what would've been Gaye's 74th birthday (on April 2), we are taking a look back at a vintage photo of the star. In this 1973 snapshot, he is seen relaxing outside of a studio in Los Angeles, and we have to say, we are a little obsessed with his ensemble. His look proves the theory that all an outfit needs is a strong foundation. (What could be more solid than a crisp white T-shirt and the perfect blue jeans?) Gaye accessorized his get-up with distressed boots, red striped socks and a matching hat. This is a prime example of a fashion-forward guy who can teach us a thing or two about style.
