Late Tuesday evening Sen. Barack Obama took a moment from waiting for election results to call Sen. John McCain and congratulate him on his Republican primary victory.

Hours later, Sen. Hillary Clinton, too, reached out to the GOP presidential candidate to offer him congratulations on his victorious campaign.

Obama's call, which was first reported by Marc Ambinder, was confirmed by Obama's spokesperson Bill Burton. Other news sources have confirmed Clinton's call as well.

"At 8:30 PM central from his hotel room in San Antonio, Senator Obama called McCain," wrote Burton. "He congratulated him on the campaign he's run and said he looked forward to running against him in the fall."

No word yet as to whether to Democratic primary results will support Obama's notion.
