Obama read a passage from the Bible, while former President Bush joined him in New York to read a letter sent by Abraham Lincoln to a woman who lost five sons in the Civil War.

In the nation's capital, Vice President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta spoke to those who lost loved ones during the attacks on the Pentagon.
