"I hope people can appreciate what these police officers did," said Harry Houck.

Former NYPD Detective Harry Houck, a law enforcement analyst for CNN, got emotional while talking about a shooting in Dallas that left five police officers dead.

“I am in awe of the bravery of those police officers, I really am,” he said Friday morning. “You have a 9 millimeter handgun ... you’re taking on somebody with an automatic weapon, and you have a bulletproof vest that will not stop that round. I hope people can appreciate what these police officers did.”

At least 12 police officers and two civilians were shot in an “ambush-style” attack during a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas Thursday night. It was the deadliest day for police in the U.S. since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

President Barack Obama spoke about the shooting from Warsaw, Poland, early Friday morning, calling it “a vicious, despicable and calculated attack on law enforcement.”

“I think I speak for every single American when I say that we are horrified,” Obama said.
