Marcell Ozuna Loses Fly Ball, Doesn't Realize Will Venable Hit Home Run During Marlins-Padres Game (VIDEO)

WATCH: Rookie Loses Fly Ball.. Doesn't Realize It Wasn't A Fly Ball

With just eight big league games under his belt, Marlins rookie Marcell Ozuna has been getting acquainted with the majors as Giancarlo Stanton recovers from a hamstring injury. But the newcomer flashed some of his inexperience on Tuesday when he lost track of a fly ball in the lights without realizing that it wasn't actually a fly ball.

Early in the second inning, Padres outfielder Will Venable launched a shot to right field that the rookie appeared to track. Ozuna started signaling that he had lost sight of it but when the crowd erupted behind him, he turned and saw the fans celebrating a home run. Even the announcers were confused.

“It felt like I hit it high but I felt like I hit it really good," said Will Venable to the San Diego Reader. "I didn’t know that [Ozuna] had lost the ball.”
