The political future of Arizona Republican Rep. Rick Renzi looked murky this week, as an ongoing federal investigation into a land deal involving the congressman spawned rumors of a possible resignation that Renzi swatted down.
The Phoenix Business Journal reported Friday that Renzi, who has represented Arizona's sprawling and rural 1st District since 2003, was facing pressure from top Republicans to resign from office amid the probe into the land deal, which benefited a Renzi friend and campaign donor.
Renzi relinquished his three committee assignments after the FBI raided a family business last week. But he has denied wrongdoing and rejected rumors that he is thinking about resigning from the House.
