The American Way of War is Eugene Jarecki's latest book. Jarecki is an award-winning dramatic and documentary filmmaker whose previous film Why We Fight won the 2005 Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. The Trials of Henry Kissinger, won the 2002 Amnesty International Award. In addition to his work in film, Jarecki is also the Founder and Executive Director of The Eisenhower Project, an academic public policy group, dedicated in the spirit of Dwight D. Eisenhower, to studying the forces that shape American foreign policy.
The Real News Network's Paul Jay interviewed Eugene Jarecki about his new book, The American Way of War. In part 1, Jay and Jarecki discuss the development of the military industrial complex. Jarecki references President Eisenhower when he says that there were warnings post WW2, that Americans would feel an overconfidence in the majesty of industry. They also examine President Obama's foreign policy, comparing his pre-election mindset to his current movements on Afghanistan and Iraq.
