Think quick: What's the ultimate "Dad drink"? We bet you said Scotch, or maybe bourbon.

Those are both great answers, and very tasty to drink (heck, we posted a gallery of whiskey cocktails for Father's Day last year), but they're not the only brown spirits out there.

Aged tequila and rum offer some of the same wonderfully oaky and rich flavors, and they're perfect for a variety of refreshing cocktails.

So this weekend, honor your pops by making him a delicious drink. Here are a few of our favorites. You can thank us later. Cheers!

Give Dad the Gift of Cocktails

Spiced Old Fashioned(01 of06)

The classic Old Fashioned is a snap to make, and the recipe works with most any type of spirit. This tasty añejo-tequila version adds a little chile heat to the formula. (Watch Liquor.com advisory board member Jacques Bezuidenhout fix one in our How to Cocktail video.)

Barbados Rum Punch(02 of06)

If your dad plans to spend Sunday by the pool, on a boat or behind the grill, mix up a round of Barbados Rum Punches. The four-ingredient recipe lets the complex taste of the liquor shine through, but it's cold and refreshing enough for even the hottest summer day.

Thank your father for instilling in you a culinary curiosity by whipping up this tequila, fig preserves, orange juice, fresh rosemary and ginger concoction. It also pairs wonderfully with grilled steak, which we imagine is one of his favorites.

Roosevelt Cocktail(04 of06)

Got an old man who is an old-school drinker? Try this spirit-forward concoction, which combines fine dark Guatemalan rum, dry vermouth and a touch of orange juice. He’ll like it no matter which political party he belongs to.

Savory Margarita(05 of06)

No list of warm-weather tequila drinks would be complete without a Margarita, but most recipes for the favorite use un-aged blanco tequila. This variation calls for a reposado bottling, which matches the complexity of its unique signature ingredient, red bell pepper juice. Serve it with spicy food of any kind.

Firecracker(06 of06)

Given its name (and the fact that it contains watermelon), this drink is certainly appropriate for Independence Day in a couple weeks. If it's going to be warm on Sunday, conduct a trial run for Dad. The concoction calls for a seven-year-old Nicaraguan rum, which gives it an unexpected sophistication.
