You can't go to Tuscany and not see Siena. One of the most beautiful towns in Italy, it has medieval architecture, artwork to rival Florence and one of the most photogenic squares you've ever seen, the Piazza del Campo, home to the medieval Palio horse race every summer. (credit:Flickr:BarelyFitz)
Pisa(02 of08)

There's more to Pisa than the leaning tower - but the tower, and the Campo dei Miracoli (field of miracles) where it's located, are both pretty good reasons to go. Pisa's beautifully compact so you can navigate the main sights in a day, and its small town atmosphere is a welcome respite from Florence. (credit:Flickr:Eustaquio Santimano)
Viareggio(03 of08)

On the Tuscan coast up the road from Pisa, Viareggio is one of Italy's most delightful seaside towns. Beautiful art deco architecture and a strong history mean that a day on the beach will take you back to the way things were when it first made a name for itself. (credit:Flickr:Marc van der Chijs)

That textbook Tuscany you see in all the photos? You'll find it in the Val d'Orcia, centered around the medieval hill town of Pienza. Sweeping hills, rows of cypress trees and vibrant colors are yours for the taking - just make sure you bring an extra memory card for the camera. (credit:Flickr:Oishi Kuranosuke)

You may not have heard of Chianciano, but you’ve no doubt heard of its most famous fan – Federico Fellini. He came to this spa town every year to take the waters and even set 8½ here. Today, there’s a superb spa facility with thermal pools and various therapies, as well as a mud sauna.
