Russian Foreign Minister On James Comey: 'Was He Fired? You Are Kidding!'

Nobody is kidding.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had little to say on Wednesday when a reporter asked if President Donald Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey would “cast a shadow” over his visit to Washington.

“Was he fired?” Lavrov responded. “You are kidding! You are kidding!”

He then rolled his eyes as U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson escorted him from the room.

To recap: Comey was fired on Tuesday. Lavrov asked “Was he fired?” on Wednesday.

Prior to the brittle exchange, Lavrov and Tillerson had entered the room to shake hands in a brief photo-op. “I want to welcome Foreign Minister Lavrov to the State Department and express my appreciation for making the trip to Washington so that we can continue our dialogue and our exchange of views that began in Moscow,” Tillerson said.

Lavrov was scheduled to meet with Trump later on Wednesday morning.
