Former House Speaker and possible 2012 presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich offered his take on Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell's infamous "I'm not a witch" ad on Monday.
During a stop on the campaign trail in Georgia for two GOP congressional candidates, Gingrich was asked about the television spot released by O'Donnell's camp in the wake of controversy surrounding a suggestion she made in 1999 that she "dabbled into witchcraft" during an appearance on "Politically Incorrect," HBO host Bill Maher's former ABC program.
In the campaign ad O'Donnell said, "I'm not a witch," aiming to set the record straight.
"I think had she handled the witch comment differently -- you know, the fact that when she was in high school she dabbled in witchcraft -- there are 65 diferent ways to handle that other than doing a commercial that says, 'I'm not a witch,'" explained Gingrich on matter, according to the Associated Press.
ThinkProgress relays what O'Donnell said about her exploration into witchcraft years earlier:
I dabbled into witchcraft. I hung around people who were doing these things. I'm not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do.
One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar and I didn't know it. I mean, there was a little blood there and stuff like that. ... We went to a movie and then had a little picnic on a satanic altar.
