Democratic congressional candidate Nick Casey lost to Republican Alex Mooney in the race to replace Rep. Shelley Moore Capito in Congress.

Casey, a lawyer, was backed by several West Virginia Republicans in June. Mooney is a former Maryland state senator.

Capito faced West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant (D) on Tuesday and won the open Senate seat left by retiring Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D).
