Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) brushed off the battle over the Keystone XL pipeline, calling it "the Kim Kardashian of energy."

“I don’t know why we care," Heitkamp said at a Washington, D.C. conference, according to The Hill.

Heitkamp is a supporter of the pipeline, which would move heavy crude from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. She has publicly distanced herself from President Barack Obama in the past over his stance on Keystone, saying in January 2012 his "decision to reject the Keystone XL pipeline was the wrong one, plain and simple."

Heitkamp also released a campaign ad in September 2012 that put distance between her and Obama, saying she'd "put the politics aside and work with both parties to build the Keystone Pipeline, which will create jobs while also contributing to our energy independence."
