Rev. Jeremiah Wright is over the whole Obama controversy -- or so he said in an interview with the Washington Post.

In the interview Wright defended the president and spoke about what he sees is a continuing trend of media attacks against the President.

"It is unrealistic to think that one person can change the mess that this country has gotten into, but to pick on him is like picking on one of my kids," Wright told the Post.

In the run-up to the 2008 presidential election, then-candidate Obama drew heavy fire for his connection to Wright after some of the reverend's passionate and unrestrained sermons were picked up by the media. Obama was eventually forced to cut ties with his pastor in what became a very public schism.

But Wright said he isn't holding a grudge.

"I have not stopped loving him because of what the press did, and to see him beat up on because of things he is not responsible for is painful," Wright said, according to the interview.

Despite his defense of and affection for Obama, Wright admitted that he didn't expect to see the President again until "he is out of the White House."
