How To Wear Black Jeans For 5 Days, In 5 Different Ways (PHOTOS)

5 Ways To Wear Black Jeans
|

Black jeans are a staple in every girl's closet. Ever since Emmanuelle Alt in all her stylish glory took the reins at French Vogue, we've seen her out and about cutting a tres chic silhouette in her slim jeans. So for our five days challenge story we decided to give it a whirl, and it proved almost as tricky as styling a bold skirt.

The thing is, you can't really make black jeans look all that different. But that doesn't mean you can't style them to the hilt, which we did by layering, layering and more layering. We went for the obvious looks -- blazers and oxford blouses -- but we also played with the cuffs of the pants to take the looks from casual to evening. The most important tip when wearing such a basic piece is to add bold accents, whether in the form of a neon belt, a bright bag in a primary color or a touch of animal print. Chunky jewelry is the cherry on top, and we loved how our subject (our beloved intern Jada Wong) customized the pieces herself. Check out how we styled basic black denim, and tell us in the comments section below how you would wear them?

"This is most similar to my daily outfit -- casual yet pulled together. Buttoning up the cardigan entirely turns it into an unexpected shirt and adds a nice pop of color to an otherwise neutral look."
Day Two(02 of05)

"I was surprised by how much I loved this look, which is all about reinventing the classic striped sweater. We tucked in the oversized sweater to keep the silhouette clean. The fuchsia blouse gives it a nerdy-chic touch while a handful of talon rings from Made Her Think, red platforms and leopard clutch make the look more modern."
Day Three(03 of05)

"Although Christina and our photographer Bobby can attest to my extreme lack of balance, I like a bit of ying and yang in my ensembles. Mixing chunky jewelry with pastel hues keeps me from looking too girly and the oversized Michael Kors watch also adds a hint of masculinity to the draped blazer."
Day 4(04 of05)

"It's already Day Four of the challenge, but my jeans are still holding up in this cool outfit. We layered a peach longsleeve top underneath a loosely knit Topshop sweater for a hint of color, and created drama with a dark purple glass necklace -- which I handpainted with nail polish. The light plum heels pull the look together without looking matchy-matchy with the necklace."
Day Five(05 of05)

"I love menswear-inspired looks, and this ends the week on a high note. We tucked in the chambray shirt to keep the outfit from looking sloppy and added a tough biker jacket. We didn't want to look like an extra from 'Grease,' so we toned down the footwear with a nude heel and ramped up the bright accessories. Mission accomplished!"
