Chip Kidd is probably the world's most famous book designer. His work with Knopf Doubleday includes such classic covers as "Jurassic Park", "1Q84" and David Sedaris's "Naked".
He recently gave an illuminating and funny TED talk in Long Beach, California about the essence of book design, and what stories look like.
And he's very much all about the printed book. As he says in the talk, "much is to be gained by eBooks: ease, convenience, portability. But something is definitely lost: tradition, a sensual experience, the comfort of thingy-ness — a little bit of humanity."
