McCaskill's Twitter Mistake: "I Support The Pubic Option On Healthcare Reform"

Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) had a long night at her computer on Monday.

Expressing her views on the health care debate late in the evening, she Twittered:

"I support the pubic option on healthcare reform, but must make sure private market can compete. Working on that in the Senate."

About nine minutes later, she corrected herself and added:

"Big mistake, tweetng when dead tired,one more time spelled right....I support public option,as long as private can compete. Now sleep."

Earlier in the night, she was caught up in responding to reports that her staff had flipped off "tea party" protesters at her office in St. Louis on Friday by linking to her tumblr account. That's where she explained that only one staffer, an Iraq war veteran, was working in the office at the time, and asked the protesters to refrain from "banging on the windows and doors continuously."

That explanation didn't satisfy some tea party protesters, who slammed her and called her "an old hag" on their Twitter accounts, causing McCaskill to tweet: "And we wonder why we have a hard time coming together,listenng to each other."
