(AP) - Republican Party chairman Michael Steele is making his first public appearance after angering some in his party with remarks about the war in Afghanistan.
Steele is in the Denver suburb of Greenwood Village Thursday to greet state Republicans opening a new campaign office.
The outspoken chairman's appearance in Colorado will be his first since he came under fire for calling the 9-year-old conflict in Afghanistan a mistaken "war of Obama's choosing." Steele later issued a statement stressing his support for U.S. troops.
Steele is also expected to appear at events in Nevada and Washington State later this week.
