A GOP-led push for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in Minnesota passed the House Civil Law Committee.
Republicans now control the Minnesota Legislature and are fast-tracking the ban to go before voters in the 2012 ballot. Minnesota state law already bans gay and lesbian couples from marrying but supporters are trying to forestall any legal challenge to it.
