If you've just split up from a partner, you have probably heard all the clichés, like, "It wasn't meant to be" and "It'll happen at the right time". But let's be honest: that stuff rarely helps.

Here's something you might not have heard before: "If you're brave enough to love someone, then you're strong enough to get over them."

Put simply, it means if you were brave enough to risk your heart for love then you are strong enough to follow these five steps.

1. Learn from the relationship.

As hard as it may be, there's a reason for every relationship we are in. Take a step back and appreciate the things that mattered to you, the reasons you fell in love, and the things you couldn't stand. They might be things you never thought of before, but now, thanks to some reflection, you realize how important these things are for you to have in your perfect partner.

2. Let them go.

Easier said than done, we know. And not to sound cliché, but there is a reason the saying, "It just wasn't meant to be" is so popular. And look on the positive side, there might be millions of people who could be your "one" and now you are just one step closer to finding them.

3. Don't look back.

There's a wise saying: "You can't start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one". And whoever said that is 100 percent right. So learn from the relationship and then move on to the next chapter in your life. Just because the relationship is over, doesn't mean you are.

4. Believe in love again.

You believed in love to let this person in, and however it might have ended, it was love. That's why it hurts now that's over. If this kind of love found you, believe that the everlasting kind still can -- and still will.

5. Remember that you are strong enough to get through this.

This is the most important thing. You had the strength to open yourself up to another person and risk the heartbreak for a chance at love. If you were able to do that, then you definitely have the strength inside you to move on. Bigger and better things await you.

Because you are definitely worth it.
