Jon Stewart Author Interview: Atul Gawande On 'The Checklist Manifesto' (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart had author and surgeon Atul Gawande on The Daily Show last night to talk about his new book, "The Checklist Manifesto." The book tells the story of a two-minute checklist that Gawande and his team created to be used before beginning surgery. Though the checklist has so far saved thousands of lives, it's been difficult to get it implemented -- it's currently only used in 20% of hospitals -- because surgeons often feel that they shouldn't have to resort to a checklist, that their expertise makes it unnecessary. However, Gawande revealed, 93% of surgeons reported that they would want the checklist used if they were undergoing surgery themselves.

As Stewart quipped, "It's so simple, it just may never be implemented."
