Madame Tussauds Opens In Australia (PHOTOS)

Madame Tussauds opened in Sydney's Darling Harbour Monday, marking the 14th edition of the house of all things wax and its first edition Down Under.

General Manager Hywel Mathias told Sky News that it took 60 artists some 800 hours to create all the figures (each worth around $220,000.) "Madame Tussauds is synonymous with history, heritage and fine artistry and we're so excited that we can finally welcome such an iconic attraction to Sydney," he told AFP.

This museum has an Australian feel, as local celebs and politicians mingle with international stars such as Oprah (who made a much-hyped visit to the nation last year) and President Obama.

Prior to the opening, the Museum put Brangelina on display at the SKYWALK at the Sydney Tower Eye to get tourists amped about the debut (see photos below).

The original Madame Tussauds opened some 200 years ago in London and now serves as a tourist attraction in every city with an outpost, including New York, Las Vegas, London, Amsterdam, Bangkok and Tokyo.
