Makeup Porn: Hello Kitty at Sephora

As a rule, I don't go fanboy for makeup collections. But an exception has to be made for the limited edition Hello Kitty collection that just landed at Sephora.

As a rule, I don't go fanboy for makeup collections, but an exception has to be made for the limited edition Hello Kitty collection that just landed at Sephora. I was a little skeptical at first -- Hello Kitty has been known to play fast and loose with her brand licensing, resulting at times in some poor quality items. But I was won over, first by the sleek, modern packaging in white and silver, and then by the products themselves.

The collection is on the expensive side to be sure, and many of the cosmetics don't offer the color payoff one might expect for the price range. Even so, they're cute as hell and likely to sell out fast.

My favorite out of the entire collection has to be the Hello Kitty perfume. A fruity, effervescent fragrance, girlish without being cloying. Comes in a 1.7 oz spray for $55, a .33 oz rollerball bottle for $18, and...

A solid perfume locket! A bit too blingy for me too wear, but I'd coo at it on someone else. Necklace, $39.

Super shiny gloss with a hint of color. My only complaint would be that they're unflavored. With color names like Lollipop, Grape Candy, and Peach Pie, I was expecting something more lickable.Big Smile Gloss, $16.

Another favorite of mine. A kitty-shaped, layered compact featuring 4 eye shadows and 4 lip glosses. The shadows are nicely pigmented, in contrast to the sheer, lightweight glosses. Comes in two color combinations.Say Hello Palette, $35.

I haven't tried these nail polishes yet, but I'm going to have to if just for the adorable packaging. Polishes come in 7 pastel shades (3 of which are pink) and a clear top coat. Liquid Nail Art, $10.

Hydrating blush sticks give cheeks a sheer wash of color. I love how these look on me, but I would caution that the color might be too sheer for darker complexions.Apple Cheeks, $22.

A set of five pink makeup brushes in a metallic silver Hello Kitty container. What sold me on the set is that opening the container means removing Kitty's head. A decapitated feline makeup brush holder is exactly what my vanity was lacking! Hello Kitty Brush Set, $49.
Sweet Gloss(09 of10)

Billed as lip glosses, these are in reality tinted lip balms. They smell of strawberries and offer a sheer, subtle color. Sweet Gloss, $16
Charmmy Kohl Eyeliner Kit(10 of10)

7 eyeliners in a reusable tin case. I haven't tried these yet, but I hear they are well pigmented and apply smoothly. The only complaint seems to be that, like most kohl liners with a softer texture, they are prone to smudging. Charmmy Kohl Eyeliner Kit, $25
