Mark Zaccaria Loses Senate Election In Rhode Island To Jack Reed
|

Republican Mark Zaccaria was defeated by Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) in the state's Senate race Tuesday.

Reed, who was first elected to the Senate in 1996, ran unopposed in this year's Democratic primary. He served in the House of Representatives prior to the Senate.

Zaccaria is a former head of the state GOP and twice ran to represent the state's 2nd District.

The contest between the two candidates was one of the nation's lowest profile races due to Reed's high favorability ratings.
