Obama Congratulates Potential NFL Player On Coming Out

A post from President Barack Obama's Twitter account congratulated University of Missouri defensive lineman and potential NFL player Michael Sam for coming out as gay.

Obama praised Sam's "real sportsmanship" in a tweet Monday:

First Lady Michelle Obama also sent a message to Sam on Monday, saying "we couldn't be prouder of your courage."

Sam publicly came out as gay on Feb. 9. He is eligible for the 2014 NFL Draft and is poised to become the first active openly gay player in the league's history.
