The chief campaign committee for Senate Democrats continues to outraise its Republican counterpart. According to a report filed Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) raised $4.3 million in February, compared to $2.17 million by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).
The DSCC touted the monthly haul as the largest it has ever pulled in during February of a non-election year and noted that $2 million came from grassroots donors.
"Our supporters understand that we need to compete with both the Karl Rove and Club for Growth wings of the Republican party, and they understand what is at stake," DSCC Executive Director Guy Cecil said in a statement. "The House Republican budget, the never-ending attack on women's health, and even the notion of Mitch McConnell becoming Majority Leader has fired up our supporters earlier than ever before."
In January, the Senate Democrats also beat the Senate Republicans in fundraising by more than $2 million. The struggles at the NRSC could complicate the Republican Party's efforts to retake the Senate for the second straight election cycle, despite a host of Democratic incumbents running in 2014 in states that voted for Mitt Romney last year.
The NRSC was outspent not only by the DSCC in the 2012 Senate races: The Republican group was the only congressional party committee to be outspent by allied independent groups in the 2012 cycle.
