For the past umpteen months, we have all been inundated with dramatic news of one of the most heated and unusual elections in our lifetime.

Between baseball + politics, my entire Facebook feed has little room for those beautiful life updates that were the old normal. Nervous tension involving every aspect of 2016 presidential election from disgust to passion has consumed our minds and hearts.

Casual conversation at the market, gym, with Uber drivers or dinner quickly turn to to the topic of Hillary versus Trump versus moving out of the country. None of us have been able to escape the heated intensity and fear unless we live under a rock.

How you vote or do not vote is your personal prerogative. This is about how to not let the election suck the life out of you, or if it's too late, how to get some of that energy back.

  • Make your election decision and take a political hiatus: Lighten it up. Consciously talk about things that make you happy. Go for a walk. Pause on the non-stop debating.
  • Tame the news obsession: Turn the TV to a comedy, cartoons or better yet, turn it off. This goes for you computer and phone too. If making a post, choose a non-election topic to lighten the mood for everyone.
  • Remember what you loved to do before the election madness and do it: Dance, disco bowling, view some art, play with the kids or best option... meditate.
  • Sweat it out: Do some extra cardio, take an epsom salt bath or go to the sauna. Sweating releases toxins and resets you.
  • Relax; get out of your head: This election has been exhausting. Now that the campaigning is over, do some self-care. Get lavender oil and put it on your pillow and feet before sleep. Go to bed earlier. Find what makes you laugh and do a lot of it.

If all else fails and you are out of here, choose wisely the new country of your choice and think of the rest of us left behind in the U.S.A.
