The Molokini, A Transparent Ocean Kayak So Genius, We Wish We'd Thought Of It

We Wish We'd Thought Of This Genius Transparent Kayak
|

There are plenty expensive gadgets and gizmos we'd like to buy for our next traveling adventure, but sometimes it's just not in the budge.

For example, we're not going to spend $9,000 on this tent for our glamping trip and $50,000 for a barbecue dining boat is simply out of our price range.

But we have located one item that might actually be worth shelling out some cash for. This insanely cool, rather genius transparent sea kayak called the Molokini, is that item and we need it now.

It's the perfect kayak for people who want to take a long paddle out to explore the calm seas and see what's beneath them but maybe not get their hair wet. Clear Blue Hawaii, the makers of the Molokini, tested it out on the island of Oahu and were delighted to find they could see marine life 75 feet below them, in good weather and ocean conditions.

The one setback? The price tag on this puppy (nearly $2,700) is pretty steep. Because with the Molokini, not only are you paying for ocean views -- you're also paying for a kayak made out of material used in fighter jets and bulletproof glass.

The durability of the clear kayak has been tested to protect against dangerous conditions just in case you get swept up looking at the magical world beneath you, and flipping is nearly impossible. A no-flip, transparent kayak that will let us soak in all the under-the-sea magic we can find? Sounds like happy paddling to us!

High levels of bacteria were detected in the water forcing the Hawaiian Department of Health to close several of Waikiki's most famous beaches. The sun rises over the Pacific ocean as seen from US President Barack Obama's motorcade in Kailua, on Hawaii island, December 28, 2009. Obama was expected to break his public silence on the thwarted attempt to down a US airliner on Monday, as a political storm brewed over the attack. The White House warned Republican foes December 27 not to inject politics into the aftermath of the bid by a 23-year-old Nigerian to destroy a Northwest jet carrying 290 people, as a sweeping national security operation unfolded. The president, vacationing in Hawaii, has not commented on television about the Christmas Day drama, apparently seeking to project calm and avoid the political point-scoring and panic seen after past terror incidents. Along 25th avenue Hawaiian dancers danced outside of Edgewater Coffee Company. Kavika Chrichton dances a traditional dance of a samoan warrior. The 11th annual Colorado Dragon Boat festival continued today July 31,2011 at Sloan's Lake in Denver, with temperatures soaring into the triple digits. Dragon boat racing is over 2,000 years old and is steeped in Chinese tradition. At the festival there are two types of boats that were used this year. The Taiwan style boat aka Flag Catching boats, where boats race to capture a flag at the end. They race in pairs. The second style is the international standard Hong Kong style boat where three boats race against each other. There were 3 different divisions in each category. Also at the festival was live music and dance, cultural education, a marketplace and lots of vendors selling food and traditional wares. Helen H. Richardson, The Denver Post (Photo By Helen H.
