'Deliverance' Director John Boorman: I Felt 'Tarnished' Watching 'American Sniper'

'Deliverance' Director: I Felt 'Tarnished' Watching 'American Sniper'
|

Veteran film director John Boorman, known for classics like 1972's "Deliverance," disagrees with the critics when it comes to "American Sniper," an Oscar Nominee for Best Picture.

"I thought it was obscene," the 82-year-old told HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri in a Wednesday interview.

The director, promoting his new film “Queen and Country,” said the movie felt "cowardly," and that he "felt tarnished by watching that film."

"They showed aspects of it [the Iraq war] -- he [Chris Kyle] was affected by it -- but fundamentally it was about watching somebody kill people," he explained. "I don't want to do that myself. I don't want to watch that."
