What a difference a day makes. Last night Senator Obama delivered a speech that hit every note, every policy specific, and how to pay for it, and showed humility. He told his life story in a way any American could relate to. He showed us he is not a celebrity at heart, and managed to refute McCain on policy, not political or character, terms.
But today is a new day. McCain did the only thing he could have done to reset the race to a new starting point in choosing Governor Palin.
Palin is 44 years old, married to a blue collar husband who is a production operator and a snowmachine champion. Her eldest of five, Track, enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 2007.
Palin gives teeth to being pro-life, having a Downs syndrome child. This is a possibility every woman thinks about when she is pregnant. Palin has a six month old. AND she is a hunter.
Either Central Casting and Candid Camera have teamed up to trick cable television, or this is the best real choice and the best hidden secret the republicans have made in decades.
Palin understands energy policy and is an old-school, Teddy Roosevelt Republican who cares about conservation and the environment.
She gives voice to young people and women of all ages.
As a neutral committed to educating young people, I want the best two tickets this country has to offer.
Hats off to Obama-Biden and McCain-Palin for doing just that.
