Mitt Romney: Kelly Ayotte, New Hampshire Senator, Could Be Potential Running Mate In 2012

Key State's Senator Named By GOP Hopeful As Potential Running Mate

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney named New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte as a potential 2012 running mate, among other "terrific Republicans in the Senate, in the House, in governors' offices."

In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Romney said there are probably 15 names of people -- including Ayotte -- he would consider for the vice presidency if he should win the Republican presidential nomination.

Ayotte gave Romney a significant political endorsement over the weekend, telling the crowd at a campaign event that the former Massachusetts governor is the "one person in this field who is prepared to lead the United States of America."

"Most importantly, there is one person who I know will ensure that Barack Obama is a one-term president, and that is Mitt Romney," Ayotte said.

This isn't the first high-profile endorsement Romney has landed. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie -- who many thought would seek the Republican presidential nomination himself -- backed Romney in mid-October, saying "Mitt Romney is the man we need to lead America."
