WHO: Director of Economic Policy Jason Furman and
Senior Energy Advisor Jason Grumet
WHAT: Press conference call to discuss John McCain's failed record on promoting alternative fuels and energy independence.
WHEN: Monday, June 23 at 12:30 p.m. EDT

SUMMARY
In the words of Obama spokesman Hari Seguvan, this call discusses "John McCain's recent proposals concerning energy and the reality of his record when compared to the rhetoric he's going to be offering today." Jason Furman follows with:

his [McCain's] energy proposals kicked off and started with ideas designed to propose meaningful relief for oil companies that are struggling with record profits. He's only now belatedly gotten around to talking at all about our energy future with a set of proposals that stand in stark contrast to what he has done in the senate over the past 26 years and are themselves completely insufficient and tiny compared to the scope of problems

Jason Grumet then discusses Senator Obama's record on energy reform, pointing to CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) as an example of Obama's congressional success in reforming transportation and fuel efficiency to increase energy security. In response to an International Herald Tribune article published today on Obama's ties to the ethanol industry , Grumet also discussed in greater detail the different aspects of the Illinois Senator's energy policy, emphasizing the shortcomings of ethanol and the need for more creative solutions.
