With the new The Smurfs 3D film waiting in the wings, a number of tourist centers around the world are working full time to capitalize on the resurgence of the squeaky ones international popularity.
Abu Dhabi announced it plans to create the world's first Smurf Village. And, the town of Juzcar, Spain, normally painted a traditional white, has allowed Sony Pictures to paint it blue as an advertisement for the film, which will have its debut in the southern Spanish town.
Locals were given shirts saying simply: "I am a Smurf."
Some marketing executive somewhere is shaking his head and saying, "I can't smurfing believe they agreed to that."
