"Parks and Recreation" star Amy Poehler will give a reelection boost to fellow "Saturday Night Live" alum Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) at a Los Angeles fundraiser next week.

In a Thursday email to supporters, Franken's campaign manager said Poehler is hosting "a little party for Al" on April 24.

Poehler has been active in politics beyond her role on TV as a small-town city councilwoman. She told The Hill in 2009 that her political philosophy involves "a constant balance of paying attention, asking questions and putting my money where my mouth is."

In that vein, she sent out an email on behalf of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America in 2011.

Franken was elected in 2008 following a close recount. He has spent his time in the Senate working on mental health, antitrust and drug safety issues, among other policy efforts.

Financial executive Mike McFadden and Minnesota state Sen. Julianne Ortman are among the Republicans vying to unseat Franken in November.
